It's Oliver! He is a sweet, adorable and loyal little boy (approx 14lbs) who has been through a lot. He came in to rescue matted and dirty, after being found stray. Since then he has been shaved and had a good teeth cleaning and is learning to trust people again. His foster mom believes that he was not socialized well and as a result he is fearful when meeting new people and dogs. For him, his fear presents as barking and can look intimidating. He is getting better at this and has started to recognize people and dogs he's met before who have allowed him to work through his fears and become more comfortable with them.
He will need continued work with his adopters to continue to work on his socialization and leash skills so we have a well socialized and happy Oliver?
Oliver LOVES his twice daily walks, playing fetch in the yard and tug, sleeping on big comfy dog beds and snuggling on the sofa with you. He has a lot of energy and the play time is SO good for him. He came in knowing a LOT of cues and has learned more which are practiced during play time. For instance, he sits while waiting for his ball to be thrown. When playing tug, he knows "drop it" and then "wait". If you put his toy on the floor, he will wait for release cue of "ok" and he will grab the toy and dance around like he knows exactly how smart he is! Incorporating the cues with the play creates a bond with him and also teaches him to look to you for direction. Like when he wants to chase his foster moms cat's and he hears "leave it"! Oliver sleeps through the night gated in his own room because does he still think the cats are toys. He doesn't prefer to be left alone and does have some separation anxiety that presents as barking. He has been making improvements on this in foster as well!
We believe Oliver should be in a home with an experienced handler who is committed to continuing training and socializing. He may be cute and fluffy, but he is a bit of a project! He is used to someone being home during the day with lots of outside breaks, so even though he he is house broken, this would be ideal. Preferably a home with no cats.
The adoption donation for Oliver is $100.
